There may be a wealth of unusual bars and restaurants in the hip East Village, but one, in particular, stands out. CONFESSIONAL
nestled on East 6th Street off Second Avenue, is a charming spot filled with diverse curios, where the “confessional’ mural facilitates unfettered conversation. MORE…Below Photos vv
The keeper of secrets is the dynamic young owner Erika Fisher, niece of well-known
merengue singer Rubby Perez (also an owner) and brother of former baseball star Neifi Perez. Joining Fisher in a spot well-worth checking out is top chef Ricardo Cardona and master mixologists Cliff Mejia and Nelson Lemus.
CONFESSIONAL marks its second year this month, introducing new food and drink menus. Cardona’s select menu of popular Latin comfort dishes with novel sides includes: lamb chops a la plancha, chicken pollito, churrasco a special “CONFESSIONAL” paellita.
The equally intriguing new drink menu offers original cocktails such as: “David and Goliath,” Rittenhouse rye, crushed brown sugar, dash of chocolate bitters and Peychauds bitters; “Hot Scandal” Cabeza tequila with homemade mango puree, rosemary, fresh lime juice, agave nectar, Chipotle powder and Peychauds bitters. All drinks from this diverse menu are $14.
The decor and motif to CONFESSIONAL are as inviting as the food and drinks. The intimate space is replete with wonderful curios that line the walls juxtaposed against a streamlined, sleek decor. The hallmark of the place is the “Confessional” mural, a slate gray wall where patrons are encouraged to write all, no-holds-barred. Or, owner Fisher, who can be found frequently behind the bar, has an eager ear.
“When I conceptualized this place,” explains Fisher, “I thought it would be fun to encourage open conversation in a fun atmosphere. Some of the writings on the wall are truly unique, clever. I’ve also heard some amazing stories.”
“CONFESSIONAL”, located at 308 E. 6th Street, is open Tuesdays through Sundays from 4PM to 4AM. The phone number for reservations and information is 212-477-2400. The web site for more information and to see the menus is http://www.confessionalny.com.
